Three K-State Triple Jumpers and 4x400 Relay Team Qualify for Nationals

A total of 13 Wildcats has now qualified for the NCAA Championship

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Three K-State men's triple jumpers and the 4x400 relay team finished in the top-12, punching their ticket during the third day of the NCAA West Preliminary on Friday (May 29) at John McDonnell Field. Wrapping up competition on the men's side, 12 Cats have qualified for the NCAA Championship, for a total of 13 K-State athletes.

Two Wildcats had personal best jumps to land them in the second and third place spots. Sophomore Selva Prabhu led the men with a runner-up leap at 16.68m (54' 8.75"), a personal best by over two inches. Senior Apalos Edwards finished in 3^rd place at 16.65m (54' 7.5"), a more significant personal best by five inches. Finishing in 9^th place, junior Aaron Antoine jumped to 16.25m (53' 3.75") to qualify for his first outdoor nationals. The winner of the event was Brandon Green Jr. of Oklahoma at 16.74m.

Prabhu and Edwards still hold the no. 3 and no. 4 spots, respectively, in K-State outdoor history.
This also marks the second trip to NCAA outdoors for the two, Prabhu finished 5^th last season and Edwards previously competed back in 2022.

Senior Jhavor Bennett was just shy of making the cut as he placed 13^th with a jump of 15.93m (52' 3.25").

For the second time in three years, the K-State men's 4x400 relay team will race in the NCAA Championship after a 12^th place finish in 3:05.16, consisting of seniors Bongumusa Nkosi and Cyrus Ways, freshman Heath Grant and junior Nen Matlock. That time is now no. 9 in the K-State outdoor all-time top-10.

Running in the 400 meters quarterfinals, junior Tavon Underwood finished 18^th in 45.96 seconds.

The 4x100 relay team ran a time of 39.98 seconds with Ways, senior James Ezeonu and freshmen Croix DaCunha and Jack Guthridge, finishing in 21^st place. That time is now tied for no. 7 in the school records.

The final day of the NCAA first rounds will conclude on Saturday (May 30) in the women's second day of competition starting at 1 p.m. with the discus throw. Eight Wildcats will compete in the high jump, triple jump, 400-meter hurdles quarterfinal and the 4x400 relay.
