Wildcats Earn Bronze Medals at Commonwealth Games

Prabhu and Shankar, both competing for India, earned bronze medals in their events
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Three Wildcats competed in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, on July 27-August 1 at Scotstoun Stadium, earning two bronze medals. Juniors Selva Prabhu and Uroy Ryan made their mark in the jumps events while 2022 alumnus TJ Shankar competed in the decathlon.
Prabhu, from Madurai, India, competed in the triple jump, earning a bronze medal with a jump of 16.52m (54' 2.5"). During the A qualifying round, he also finished in 3rd place with a distance of 16.26m (53' 4.25"), a wind aide of 3.9.
Shankar, also representing India, earned a bronze medal in the decathlon with 7,976 points, just 60 points shy of the runner-up spot. He won two events, the high jump over 2.15m (7' 0.5") and the long jump at 7.82m (25' 8") and finished 2nd in the 110-meter hurdles in 14.41 seconds.
Ryan, one of just five track athletes competing for Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, finished in 6th place in the long jump with a distance of 7.93m (26' 0.25"). During the B qualifying round, he finished runner-up with a leap of 8.04m (26' 4.5").
On July 12, Ryan won the long jump event at the NACAC U23 Championship in Tlaxcala, Mexico, with a new personal best distance of 8.07m (26' 5.75").
The week before, on July 23-26, multiple Wildcats competed at the Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships in New York at Ichan Stadium. Senior Riley Marx competed in the javelin where his final throw was his best at 71.97m (236' 1") for 6th place.
Lauren Taubert ('21) earned a bronze medal in the heptathlon with a 5,971 point finish, her best event being the long jump as runner-up at 6.00m (19' 8.25) (-2.3). Taubert is still coached by former K-State director of track and field, Cliff Rovelto.
Monique Hardy and Kade McCall, both 2026 graduates, competed in the hammer throw with McCall landing in 10th place at 67.21m (220' 6") and Hardy finishing 11th at 64.70m (212' 3").
Other K-State throwers included Janee' Kassanavoid ('18) with her season's best performance in the hammer throw for 5th place at 70.98m (232' 10") and Dani Winters-Hartung ('16) finished 8th in the shot put at 16.93m (55' 6.5").
