Watkins Cards 78 In Final Round Of NCAA Regional

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Kansas State sophomore Aaron Watkins shot a six-over-par 72 Saturday to finish in a tie for 85th place in the NCAA Central Regional Golf Championships at the par-72, 7,103-yard Pleasant Valley Country Club.
The Meza, Ariz. native, shot a 78-73-78 for a 13-over par 229 for the regional. Watkins entered the final round in 76th place after shooting a one-over-par 72 on Friday.
Big 12 runner-up Oklahoma State was in first place all three rounds and Purdue rallied from a first-round fifth-place finish as the Cowboys and Boilermakers finished as co-champions. Purdue shot 290-279-296-865, while OSU recorded 287-281-297-865.
Purdue's Lee Williamson was the top individual, carding 70-67-72 for a seven-under par 209. Franklin Hatchett of SMU and Tom Johnson of Northwestern will advance as individuals to the championship finals on May 29-June 1 at Ohio State University's Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio. Hatchett shot 69-73-71 for a one-under par 213 and Johnson also shot a 72-70-71 for a one-under par 213.
