DeJesus, Pasco Lift K-State Men to Win Before Sellout Crowd

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Gilson DeJesus and Pervis Pasco each hit double figures in points and rebounds, while Kansas State's defense held Texas Tech to 26 percent shooting as the Wildcats upset the 23rd-ranked Red Raiders, 68-44, in a Big 12 Conference men's basketball game played before a sellout crowd at Bramlage Coliseum.
DeJesus led all players in the game with 19 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. Pasco had his third straight double-double with 14 points and 11 boards for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats' eighth straight victory lifted them to 10-4, while Texas Tech fell to 10-2 after having a five-game winning streak snapped. The last time a Wildcat team won eight in a row was in the 1997-98 season.
The game was the conference season-opener for both teams.
Tim Ellis chipped in with 15 points for K-State, while Marques Hayden had 10 points off the bench and fell one rebound short of being the third Wildcat in the game with a double-double.
Andre Emmett had 18 points to lead Texas Tech, with Kasib Powell adding 12 points.DeJesus canned two of his five three-pointers in the opening 2:13 as Kansas State began the game with an 11-2 run. The Red Raiders were back within 14-10 before the ?Cats used a seven-point run to take a double-digit lead.
A three-pointer by Emmett with 5:20 left before halftime had Tech within 27-18. But Hayden scored six straight points to start a nine-point run over the next four minutes. Kansas State ended the half leading 38-23 behind 11 points and nine rebounds from DeJesus.
Kansas State's lead grew to 22 points in the opening three minutes of the second half. The closest Tech came in the second half was 45-29 with 16:45 to play. The Red Raiders hit just 7 of 33 shots after halftime, shooting 21 percent in the second half.
K-State shot 45 percent from the floor, including an 8-for-16 mark from three-point range. The Wildcats held a 51-26 edge in rebounding.
Matt Siebrandt finished with six assists to lead K-State, while point guard Frank Richards had eight points and five assists.
Kansas State plays its first road game in a month when it travels to Colorado on Wednesday. The Wildcats next play at home on Jan. 22 when they host Nebraska at 7 p.m.
