WESTERN ILLINOIS HEAD COACH LESLIE CRANE
On the game...
"Turnovers are the big thing. We have six new kids and three of them are on the perimeter so it's been a learning scenario for our kids. I'm very proud of that fact that we fought and we never gave up. We kept coming at them, so I'm pleased with that. We need to get more consistent in what we are doing, and get ready for the rest of our games. They (K-State) are ranked in the top of the nation for a reason. I saw a lot of good things that we did.”
On the moral of the team at halftime...
"With three minutes left in the first half we were only down seven. We were a lot more consistent then. We were handling the press and we were running our half court sets the way we needed to. I was pleased with what we saw. Going down fifteen at halftime was too big. I was hoping it would be ten. It was a little bit too big of a hill to climb. We did a good job of fighting and coming back for it."
On the turnovers...
"If you're going to turn if over as many times as we did, that's a problem. We handled the press well at times, but we weren't consistent. We panicked at times, and we just need to get better.”
On Nicole Ohlde and Kendra Wecker...
"You're not going to stop them that much at all. I think Purdue did a good job on them. You're not going to stop both of them. You can try to stop one, but you're not going to stop both. We didn't do a good job pressuring perimeter-wise, so they couldn't catch the lob over the top. We needed to do a better job on Ohlde as far as fronting. How are you going to stop Wecker? They have a one-two punch and I thought we did a better job on Koehn than we did the last time we played here."
WESTERN ILLIONIS FORWARD TIFFANY CORNELIUS
On the game...
"It was a battle. We fought until the end, so did that, and that was the outcome."
On feeling at halftime...
"We thought we were in it. A couple three's and we would have been back in it. We went out and we knew we had another half, and we thought we would be okay.”
On the turnovers...
"That was the downfall right there. If you would have said we had 35 turnovers coming in, that would be the game right there. I knew we would have lost the game with 35 turnovers."
