K-State Women Remain in First Place After Win

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kendra Wecker had 16 points and eight rebounds, leading four players in double figures, as No. 5 Kansas State rolled to a 64-47 victory over Nebraska in a Big 12 Conference women's basketball game played Wednesday before 9,426 at Bramlage Coliseum.
The Wildcats improved to 22-2 and improved to 9-1 in the Big 12, remaining in a first-place tie in the league standings with Texas Tech and Texas, which both won on Wednesday. Kansas State won its fourth straight overall and its 18th straight at home.Nebraska fell to 8-13 overall and 1-9 in the conference.
Nicole Ohlde chipped in 14 points and eight rebounds for K-State, while Megan Mahoney had 13 points and a game-high eight assists. Amy Dutmer tied her season-high with 12 points, scoring all those in the first half.
Ohlde scored the 1,500th point of her career early in the second half, becoming the quickest Wildcat ever to reach that plateau. Ohlde reached the milestone in only her 85th game, surpassing the 103 games it took for Diana Miller to earn 1,500 points.
Alexa Johnson finished with 21 points and six rebounds for the Huskers, while Margaret Richards had 10 points off the bench.
Kansas State pulled to a 9-2 lead in the first four minutes and led 16-6 with 12:30 left in the half. Nebraska pulled within 20-14 at the 8:19 mark, but failed to score again until nine seconds remained in the first half. K-State had pulled ahead 32-14 by that point and took a 34-16 edge into halftime.
The Huskers shot 30 percent from the floor in the first half and Johnson had 10 of their 16 points.
Nebraska pulled within 11 points three times in the early part of the second half, the last time at 42-31 with 12:53 to play. But Mahoney hit a three-pointer, Ohlde scored on a conventional three-point play and Ohlde hit another bucket in an 8-0 run over the next 1:22, pushing the lead back to 19.
Kansas State led by as many as 24 down the stretch, taking a 60-36 lead with 5:01 left.Wecker and Mahoney each had 11 points in the second half for K-State, which hit 48 percent from the floor after halftime.
Jina Johansen finished with nine points and a team-high six assists for Nebraska, which shot 37 percent for the game, including a 3-for-19 mark from three-point range.K-State ended the game with a 38-29 edge in rebounding.
The Wildcats host Oklahoma State on Saturday at 7 p.m.
