Ohlde Named Finalist For Wade Trophy

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Just two days after being named a finalist for the Naismith Award, junior Nicole Ohlde of Kansas State was named one of 13 finalists for the prestigious State Farm Wade Trophy announced today by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
Ohlde joins Chantelle Anderson of Vanderbilt; Alana Beard and Iciss Tillis of Duke; Carla Bennett of Drake; Michelle Greco of UCLA; Kara Lawson of Tennessee; Kelly Mazzante of Penn State, Nicole Powell of Stanford; Diana Taurasi of Connecticut; LaToya Thomas of Mississippi State; Lindsay Whalen of Minnesota and Shereka Wright of Purdue.
The State Farm Wade Trophy is presented annually to the best women's basketball player in NCAA Division I. Candidates are selected based on game and season statistics, effect on team, leadership, character and overall playing ability.
Ohlde is second on the team in scoring (18.5), rebounding (8.7) and leads the team in blocks (47). She is currently 34th in the NCAA in scoring and 17th in field-goal percentage (.581). The 6-foot-4 center has collected two Big 12 Player of the Week honors and was tabbed the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year.
Kansas State has had two other Wildcats named finalists for the Wade Trophy. Priscilla Gary was a finalist in 1983 and Tammie Romstad was a finalist in 1981 and 1982.
The State Farm Wade Trophy is awarded to a WBCA/Kodak All-American at the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) National Convention held annually in conjunction with the NCAA Division I Women's Final Four. The State Farm Wade Trophy Player of the Year will be presented on April 7 at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis.
