KANEOHE, Hawaii - Miranda Smith shot a two-round total of 3-over 147, including an even-par 72 during the second round, to lead the Wildcats as Kansas State closed out the opening day of play at the Dr. Thompson Rainbow Tournament at the par-72, 5,829-yard Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course in fourth place with a combined score of 621.
Fifth-ranked Southern California leads the field heading into Wednesday's third and final round. The Trojans carded a combined total of 595.
Third-ranked Arizona, paced by individual leader Cassandra Kirkland's 2-under par 142, stands second at 603, followed by Rollins College in third at 606.
Christine Boucher, the Cats' stroke average lead, concluded the first two rounds tied for 24th at 13-over 175. Sarah Heffel shot 159 and Karen Quintelier carded a 165 to both finish among the top 50.
K-State's two other competitors, Elise Carpentier and Stephanie Limoges shot 166 and 167, respectively. Carpentier is playing as an individual.
The third and final round of the Dr. Thompson Rainbow Tournament tees off from the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course on Wednesday, March 19 at 7:30 a.m. (HST).
