Cypress, Texas - The Kansas State women's golf team finished fifth at the Texas A&M "Mo"morial Invitational. The Wildcats carded a combined score of 625 (315-310). The field was scheduled to play 54 holes in the two-day event, but inclement weather on Monday reduced the tournament to 36 holes.
"Placing fifth in this type of tournament is very respectable," head coach Kristi Knight said. "It is also encouraging, because this was not our best tournament. We haven't hit on all cylinders yet. We know we are capable of more."
Senior Miranda Smith led the Wildcats for the second straight tournament. Smith carded a 75-73-148 to finish in a three-way tie for third. Junior Christine Boucher tied for 20th, scoring rounds of 77-78-155.
"Miranda really carried us today," Knight said. "She played great. But as a team, we couldn't get any of our putts to fall."
Baylor claimed the team title. The Bears carded a score of 610 (310-300). Arkansas (617) and Tulane (619) finished second and third, respectively.
Junior Karen Quintelier and sophomore Sarah Heffel both tied for 49th place. Quintelier posted scores of 82-79-161 and Heffel shot 81-80-161. Senior Elise Carpentier tied for 92nd, recording scores of 84-90-174. For complete tournament results, visit golfstat.com.
