Ohlde Triple Winner At K-State Women's Basketball Banquet

MANHATTAN, Kan - The Kansas State women's basketball team closed the 2002-03 season Saturday afternoon with its annual awards banquet at the K-State Student Union Ballroom. Head coach Deb Patterson handed out team awards.
Junior Nicole Ohlde was named the Co-Most Valuable Player, the team's Most Outstanding Defensive Player and Practice Player of the Year. The Clay Center, Kan., native was second in scoring (18.4), first in field goal percentage (.573), rebounding (9.0) and blocks (65). Ohlde was named an All-American by the Associated Press, Kodak and the U.S. Basketball Writers Association, and was the Big 12 Player of the Year, a first team All-Big 12 and Verizon Academic All-District selection. She was also a finalist for the Wade and Naismith Player of the Year awards.
Sophomore Kendra Wecker was tabbed Co-Most Valuable Player of the Year. The Marysville, Kan., native led the Wildcats in scoring (19.0) and steals (62) and was second in rebounding (8.3). Wecker was named an AP third-team All-American, first team All-Big 12 and Verizon Academic All-District. She was also a finalist for the Naismith Player of the Year award.
In 2002-03, Kansas State made its second-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament, reached the semifinals of the Big 12 Tournament and finished in second-place finish in the Big 12 regular season. The eighth-ranked Wildcats were 29-5 overall and 14-2 in the Big 12 and set school records for overall and conference victories.
