MANHATTAN, Kan. - Nick Leckey, a 2002 first team All-Big 12 selection, has been named to the 2003 Outland Trophy watch list, the Football Writers Association of America has announced.
Annually given to college football's top interior lineman, the Outland Trophy will be awarded on Dec. 11 at the ESPN College Footbal Awards Show in Orlando, Florida. Three finalists will be selected by the FWAA All-America Committee in late November and will be invited to appear on the show.
The winner will officially receive his trophy at the Outland Trophy award banquet on Jan. 8 in Omaha, Neb. The banquet is sponsored by the Omaha Sports Committee.
Leckey is one of 36 student-athletes named to the watch list and joins Randall Cummins, who was a member of the 2002 watch list, as one of just two Wildcats to be considered for the award.
A senior from Grapevine, Texas, Leckey has been in the K-State starting lineup for each of the past two seasons, helping the Wildcats set consecutive school rushing records. The first offensive lineman to play as a true freshman during the Bill Snyder era at Kansas State, he enters the 2003 campaign with a string of 25 consecutive starts and has made 27 total during his three-year Wildcat career.
