Ellis' 25 points lifts Kansas State past Nebraska, 63-58

Feb 18, 2004 | Men's Basketball

LINCOLN, Neb. Tim Ellis tipped in the game winner with 2.6 seconds to go and then connected on four free throws, as Kansas State snapped a 16-game road losing streak with a 63-58 win over Nebraska before 12,106 at the Devaney Center.

Ellis, who finished with 26 points, including a 12-for-12 effort at the free throw line, scored 15 in the second half for Kansas State (12-10, 4-7 Big 12), which led for just 21 second of the game.

Jeremiah Massey added 17 points and Jarrett Hart grabbed a season-high eight rebounds as the Wildcats won a Big 12 road game for the first time since winning at Colorado during the 2001 campaign.

Trailing 29-24 at the break and by nine points early in the second half, Kansas State went on a 9-0 run to tie the score at 33 with 13:27 to play. Less than a minute later, the Cats grabbed their first lead of the game as Massey completed a three-point play to put K-State on top 38-37 at the 12 minute mark.

The lead, however, lasted just 19 seconds as Nebraska scored the game’s next seven points to forge a 44-38 lead with 9:15 to go.

K-State would not lead again until Ellis’ tip-in with 2.6 on the clock. After Ellis' tip-in, Nebraska coach Barry Collier was called for a technical foul just as Ellis was fouled. That gave Ellis four free-throws with one-tenth of a second remaining.
