K-State unable to hold off big second half surge by Missouri in 79-69 loss to Tigers

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) Jeremiah Massey finished with 17 points and nine rebounds and Jarrett Hart added 14 points, but a pivotal 19-1 run early in the second half proved to be too much to overcome for Kansas State as the Wildcats were knocked off by Missouri, 79-69, Saturday before 10,083 at Bramlage Coliseum.

 

Jason Conley scored 20 points and Rickey Paulding poured in all 17 of his points in the second half to lead the Tigers, who won their sixth straight.

 

Kansas State led 35-28 at intermission and by as many as 10 points with 18 minutes to play before Missouri (15-10, 9-5 Big 12) went on its big run to sew up its seventh straight win over Kansas State (12-13, 4-10).

 

With the Tigers trailing 39-31, Paulding dunked over Frank Richards with 17:07 to go in the game. Richards was called for a foul, sending Wildcat fans into an uproar.

 

Paulding completed the three-point play, igniting a run that put Missouri up 48-40 with 12:39 to go. Paulding scored nine points during the stretch.

 

The Wildcats trimmed the lead to three, but Paulding hit a 3-pointer with 11:05 left and the Wildcats never got closer.

 

The Tigers were 11-of-23 from 3-point range.

 

Arthur Johnson scored 14 points and Travon Bryant added 10 for the Tigers.

 

Jeremiah Massey led Kansas State with 17 points and nine rebounds, Jarrett Hart had 14 and Richards scored 10.

 

Frank Richards sparked a 6-0 run that give the Wildcats a 35-28 lead at halftime.
