ATLANTA - Kansas State’s Nicole Ohlde and Kendra Wecker were named finalists for the 2004 NCAA Division I Kodak/WBCA All-America Basketball Team as announced Wednesday by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and Eastman Kodak Company.
WBCA member head coaches from each of the eight WBCA geographical regions determined finalists. Once selected, regional finalists are considered for Kodak/WBCA All-America Team honors. Ohlde, a 6-foot-5 senior center, made her third-straight appearance on the Kodak/WBCA All-America Region 5 Team, while teammate Wecker, a 5-foot-11 forward, is now a two-time regional honoree.
Ohlde was selected to last year’s prestigious Kodak/WBCA All-America Team along with several of the nation’s top players currently on the 2004 regional finalists list including Connecticut’s Diana Taurasi (Region 1), Duke’s Alana Beard (Region 2), Penn State’s Kelly Mazzante (Region 6), Minnesota’s Lindsay Whalen (Region 6), Duke’s Iciss Tillis (Region 2) and Stanford’s Nicole Powell (Region 8).
"This year's finalists are an incredibly talented group of players,” WBCA CEO Beth Bass said. "They are also special because they are being considered for the 30th Anniversary Kodak/WBCA All-America Team. I am excited to see who will be selected as our final ten."
The NCAA Division I Kodak/WBCA All-America Women's Basketball Team will be announced during the Kodak/WBCA All-America Team Press Conference at the New Orleans Hyatt on Saturday, April 3 at 9:45 a.m.
