ATLANTA - Kansas State’s Nicole Ohlde has been selected among the nation’s top seniors to showcase their talent in the 2004 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-Star Challenge to be held on Saturday, April 3 at Tulane University’s Fogelman Arena in New Orleans.
This year's All-Star Challenge team will compete against the 2004 USA Basketball Women's Senior National Team, which marks only the third time that an All-Star Challenge Team and a USA Basketball Senior National Team will compete against one another. The WBCA All-Star Challenge will feature 18 of the top senior NCAA Division I women’s basketball players, voted on by WBCA member Division I head coaches. The team is composed of six players from each position: point guard, perimeter and post.
A prelude to the 2004 NCAA Women's Final Four festivities in New Orleans, this year's game will be the second of a doubleheader event featured during the "WBCA Night of All-Stars." Fans will have an opportunity to watch and collect autographs from the future WNBA stars, as well as enjoy the WBCA High School All-America Game, which tips-off at 4:30 p.m. (CT).
Ohlde, a 6-foot-5 senior All-American center and two-time Big 12 Conference Player of the Year, is joined on the all-star lineup by Duke's Alana Beard and Iciss Tillis, LSU's Doneeka Hodges and Temeka Johnson, Purdue's Erika Valek and Shereka Wright, Boston College's Amber Jacobs, UConn's Diana Taurasi, Minnesota's Lindsay Whalen, Arkansas' Shameka Christon, Houston's Chandi Jones, Penn State’s Kelly Mazzante, Stanford’s Nicole Powell, Colorado's Tera Bjorklund, Georgetown’s Rebekkah Brunson, Texas' Stacy Stephens and Georgia’s Christi Thomas.
The roster could change if any of the aforementioned players' teams are participating in the 2004 NCAA Women's Final Four. Past stars of the All-Star Challenge include: Cheryl Ford (Detroit Shock), Chantelle Anderson (Sacramento Monarchs), Semeka Randall (San Antonio Silver Stars), Marie Ferdinand (Utah Starzz), Chamique Holdsclaw (Washington Mystics), Ticha Penicherio (Sacramento Monarchs) and Murriel Page (Washington Mystics).
Fans can order tickets for the event by calling the Tulane University Ticket Office at 504-861-9283 or by calling Ticketmaster at 504-522-5555 or by visiting www.ticketmaster.com.
