Tee’d Off
The Kansas State women’s golf team tees off at the Big 12 Championship Friday at 8:50 from the No. 10 hole. The Wildcats are paired with Nebraska and Oklahoma. Second and third rounds will be played Saturday and Sunday.
The Course
Pebble Creek (par 72/6,242 yards), in College Station, Texas, opened in 1992 and has hosted two other conference championships, the 1992 Southwestern Conference Men's Championship and the 1996 SWC Women's Championship.
Last Time Out
The Wildcats placed fourth at the Susie Maxwell Classic in Norman, Okla., shooting 315-300-313--928. Oklahoma won the event with scores of 308-294-298--900.
Big Time in the Big 12
As of April 8, senior Christine Boucher is ranked No. 2 in the Big 12, with a 74.33 stroke average. Boucher trails Missouri’s Denise Knaebel by .13 strokes.
The Field
In the April 13 Golfstat ratings, Kansas State is ranked No. 42 in the nation. Big 12 schools ranked in the top 20 include: No. 7 Oklahoma State, No. 13 Texas and No. 14 Oklahoma.
Boucher’s Big Fall
Christine Boucher won her fourth tournament title during the Wildcats’ first competition this fall in Lincoln, Neb. Her three-over 219 helped the Wildcats to a tie for second place, behind host Nebraska. Boucher won her fifth title at the Price’s Give Em Five Challenge, shooting a combined 213. Her third-round 67 is the second best of her career, while her 54-hole score is the second best in K-State history. Boucher also holds the school record from the Edwin Watts Collegiate (Nov. 4-5, 2002), where she shot a combined 204.
Fresh Impact
Freshman Helene Robert made an impression on the Wildcat golf program this fall. Robert averaged 77.8 strokes, the second-best score of the team. She finished in the Top 20 in three of five tournaments and in the Top five once. Her combined 221 at the Notre Dame Adidas Invitational was her career low.
National Rankings
Senior Christine Boucher is No. 28 in the nations according to the April 14 Golfstat Cup standings, the highest in the Big 12. Texas has the No. 39 golfer in Janice Olivencia, while the No. 41-43 slots belong to Denise Knaebel of Missouri, Lisa Meldrum of Oklahoma and Karin Sjodin of Oklahoma State.
Top Twenties
Over the course of the year, Kansas State golfers have placed in the Top 20 of a tournament 23 times. Wildcats have been in the top five nine times. Eight of the nine top five finishes belong to Christine Boucher.
Big 12 History
Kansas State’s best finish at the Big 12 Championship was sixth, in both 2002 and 2003. Christine Boucher finished second in the 2002 tournament, shooing 76-71-77--224 at Colbert Hills in Manhattan, Kan. Boucher earned first team All-Big 12 in 2003 and second team in 2002. K-State’s Miranda Smith tied for fifth last year in Columbia, Mo., with a combined 226. No other Wildcat has placed in the top 10 in the Big 12’s history.
Spring 2003
The Wildcats finshed tenth of 21 teams at the NCAA Central Regional May 8-10 in Lincoln, Neb. Christine Boucher earned fifth place with a 9-over 222. Boucher continued on to the NCAA Championships, finishing 64th.
