ROGERS, Ark. After finishing the first round in eighth place, the Kansas State women’s golf team slipped one place to ninth after the second round on Monday at the Tyson/Embassy Suites Invitational. Leading the Wildcats at Pinnacle Country Club is Kali Quick, who has carded scores of 75-76151 and enters Tuesday’s third and final round tied for 16th.
As a team, the Wildcats have shot rounds of 306-315621, leaving them six strokes behind eighth place Illinois State. Leading the 16-team field is host Arkansas, with scores of 291-299590. Big 12 rivals Nebraska and Kansas are currently fifth and sixth, respectively.
The only Wildcat to improve on her first-round scores was Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational champion Helene Robert. After shooting an 81 in Sunday’s opening round, Robert improved with a 76 on day two. Her two-round score of 157 has moved her up from 67th to 44th place.
Tied for the individual lead are Courtney Mahon of Arkansas (71-71142) and Kansas’ Amanda Costner (70-72142). Mahon and Costner have a one-stroke lead over Lady Back Ashley Medders, who is playing as an individual for Arkansas.
