K-State rolls to 71-54 win over SFA

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) - Cartier Martin tied a career high with 24 points and Kansas State went on a late run to hold off Stephen F. Austin 71-54 on Saturday night.

David Hoskins added 16 points and eight rebounds for the Wildcats (3-0), who led by 16 in the second half before the Lumberjacks cut the lead to single digits with 11 minutes to go.

After Chaz Dykes hit a floating jumper to get the Lumberjacks within 55-47 with 6:52 left, Lance Harris made a jumper and Martin scored six points to spur a run that put the game out of reach.

Anthony Paez had 13 points and Josh Alexander 11 to lead Stephen F. Austin (2-1). Marcus Clark added 12 assists for the Lumberjacks.

Harris finished with 10 points for Kansas State, and Dramane Diarra tied Tony Kitt's school record of six blocked shots, set against Kansas in 1999.

The Wildcats enjoyed a healthy advantage from the free throw line, making 22-of-28 shots to 0-of-5 for Stephen F. Austin.

Kansas State led 23-17 with 5:14 to go in the first half when Hoskins made a free throw and then converted a field goal to trigger an 11-2 run. By the time Curtis Allen hit a baseline jumper with 1:30 to go before halftime, Kansas State led 34-19 - its biggest lead of the first half.

Both teams had trouble handling the ball, combining for 35 turnovers, but Kansas State also had a season-high 21 assists.
