
MANHATTAN, Kan. Kansas State used a 16-0 run in the first five minutes of the second half to distance themselves from UMKC in a 75-42 rout of the Kangaroos Sunday at Bramlage Coliseum.
The Wildcats (7-1) settled for numerous long-distance shots in the first half en route to shooting just 36-percent and a slim 30-28 halftime lead. K-State opened the second half, by making 8-of-11 field goals and holding the Kangaroos without a field goal for the first seven minutes.
The Wildcats held UMKC (2-7) to just under 14-percent shooting from the field (4-29) in the second half, while outscoring the Kangaroos, 45-14.
K-State’s Claire Coggins finished one point shy of her career-best with a game-high 24 points, including five three-pointers. The other Wildcat players to score in double figures against UMKC were Kimberly Dietz with 15 and Marlies Gipson with a near double-double performance with 11 points and nine rebounds.
Shalee Lehning turned in another solid game all-around, scoring nine points for the second consecutive game and tallying nine assists and seven rebounds.
The Wildcats begin a three-game road trip when they venture to Omaha for a meeting with Creighton on Monday, Dec. 19 at 7 p.m. K-State will then play UNC Wilmington in the first round of the two-day Saint Peter’s College Holiday Classic on Dec. 29 and 30, before returning home to open Big 12 Conference play with Texas Tech on Jan. 4.
