Hoskins Named Big 12 Rookie of the Week

Hoskins wins the award for the second time in his career after also winning it on Nov. 28. He is the first Wildcat to win the award twice since Fred Peete won it on Dec. 13, 2004 and Feb. 14, 2005.
A native of Canton, Mich., Hoskins averaged 18.0 points on 62.5 percent shooting (10-of-16) with 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.0 assists in 26.5 minutes of action in wins over Longwood and unbeaten Colorado State last week. He also connected on 80.0 percent of his free throw attempts (16-of-20) in the two wins.
Hoskins kept the Wildcats’ perfect at home this season, as he registered a career-high 24 points on 6-of-9 shooting in his first career start against previously unbeaten Colorado State on Dec. 7. He added six rebounds and two steals in a career-best 33 minutes.
Hoskins also went 12-of-15 from the free throw line against the Rams, which were the most free throws made and attempted in a game since Jeremiah Massey went 16-of-17 from the charity stripe against Northern Illinois on Dec. 21, 2004. He also went 4-of-5 from the line in the last five minutes of the game, including a pair with eight seconds left that clinched the victory.
Hoskins began the week by scoring in double figures for the fourth time this season against Longwood, as he posted 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting with three rebounds, two assists and one steal in 20 minutes of action. He also went 4-of-5 from the free throw line in the 29-point victory.
For the season, Hoskins is averaging 13.4 points on a team-best 60.4 percent shooting (29-of-48) with 4.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 23.0 minutes per game.
