Cyclones Breeze Past Wildcats, 57-42
Feb 15, 2005 | Men's Basketball
AMES, Iowa - Sophomore guard Lance Harris poured in 16 points off the bench and senior forward Jeremiah Massey chipped in 14 and nine rebounds, but Iowa State cruised by Kansas State 57-42 Tuesday night for its sixth straight victory. Curtis Stinson had 16 points, nine rebounds and six assists and Tasheed Carr added 13 points to lead the Cyclones.
Kansas State (13-9, 3-8) lost for the fifth straight time as Iowa State (14-8, 6-5 Big 12) went up 20-7 midway through the first half, with the lead remaining in double digits the rest of the way. The Cyclones began their winning streak after a Jan. 26 loss at Kansas State.
Any chance the Wildcats had of getting back in the contest ended when K-State made only one basket in the first 7:13 of the second half. No one other than Massey or Harris scored for the Wildcats in the second half until Justin Williams dunked with 1:04 left.
The Cyclones didn't finish as strongly as they would have liked after taking a 38-19 halftime lead, shooting just 26.9 percent in the second half. But the 42 points matched the fewest an Iowa State team has allowed in a Big 12 game, holding K-State to 36.7 percent from the field and 21.4 percent from the 3-point line for the contest.
Kansas State will look to end its five-game slide against Oklahoma on Saturday. Tip time is set for 12:30 p.m.
