USBWA All-American Honors For Wecker

SAINT LOUIS For the second time of her career, Kansas State’s Kendra Wecker was selected as a U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) All-American in an announcement made Wednesday.
The Big 12 Conference Player of the Year, Wecker is averaging 20.6 points and 10.1 rebounds per game heading into this year’s NCAA Tournament. She holds the school and Big 12 Conference career scoring record with 2,279 points and is the school’s all-time leading rebounder with 1,067 rebounds.
Wecker has registered a school-record 51 career double-doubles, including a conference-leading 16 this season. She was previously selected for USBWA postseason honors as a sophomore in 2003. The No. 16-ranked Wildcats (23-7) are making their fourth-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Wecker was joined on the All-America team by LSU’s Seimone Augustus, Duke’s Monique Currie, Ohio State’s Jessica Davenport, TCU’s Sandora Irvin, Texas’ Tiffany Jackson, LSU’s Temeka Jackson, Minnesota’s Janel McCarville, Penn State’s Tanisha Wright and Baylor’s Sophia Young.
LSU's Seimone Augustus and Pokey Chatman were named the association's National Player and Coach of the Year, marking the seventh time since the USBWA started naming both a coach and player of the year in 1989-90 that both honorees have come from the same school.
Stanford’s Candice Wiggins and Georgia’s Tasha Humphrey shared Freshman of the Year honors.
