Late K-State comeback not enough to catch No. 7 Kansas

LAWRENCE, Kan. Jeremiah Massey scored 17 points and Fred Peete added 16, but No. 7 Kansas had just enough to hold off the Wildcats on senior night as the Jayhawks knocked off Kansas State 72-65 at Allen Fieldhouse Wednesday night.
Wayne Simien finished with a game-high 25 points and a career-best 20 rebounds for Kansas No. 7 Kansas (22-4, 12-3), which maintained its position atop the Big 12 and clinched at least a tie for the league championship with the win.
Justin Williams added 10 points and grabbed a co-team high six rebounds in perhaps his best Big 12 performance of the season for Kansas State (15-11, 5-10), which had its two-game winning streak snapped. Peete also snagged six boards to go along with five assists and five steals.
Keith Langford and Aaron Miles each had 12 points while Michael Lee had nine, all from 3-point range, to help the Jayhawks overcome K-State’s pesky 2-3 zone.
Unable to get their offense going against
After another Kansas miss that made the Jayhawks 3-for-15 from the field, Justin Williams hit a short jumper to shave Kansas' lead to 22-20.
But then Simien muscled inside for a stick-back and a few minutes later Lee's 3-pointer made it 32-24.
A similar shooting drought in the second half got the Wildcats within 47-41. But then Simien hit a 5-footer and added a stick-back after a big rebound by freshman Darnell Jackson. For most of the second half, the Jayhawks maintained about a 10-point lead.
