Senior offensive lineman Jeromey Clary took home both the Football Lifter of the Year and the Paul Coffman Award, which is given annually to the senior football player who best exemplifies the work ethic of former
Clary, a senior-to-be from Mansfield, Texas, who will enter the 2005 football season with 26 consecutive starts under his belt, posted 439 pounds in the bench press, 369 pounds in the incline bench, 881 pounds in the safe squat and 359 pounds in the hang clean en route to winning the double honor.
“Jeromey and the other seniors are committed to making their senior season one to remember,” said Cole. “Jeromey is as hard a worker as we’ve ever had at K-State.”
Fellow line mate Caleb Handy, a product of Conway Springs, chalked up a number of impressive results, including a 380-pound bench press, a 350-pound incline press, an 844-pound safe squat and a 319-pound hang clean and was named the Freshman Overachiever.
“Caleb is a young man who has a bright future,” Cole said. “He consistently gives a tremendous effort and is very determined in his preparation.”

In the Olympic Sports, women’s basketball All-American Kendra Wecker was named the Female Olympic Sports Lifter of the year. The Marysville native proved to be just as exceptional in her strength and conditioning preparation as she was on the court.
“Kendra’s intensity in the weight room and on the court is phenomenal,” said Karl Kasselman, K-State’s strength coach for basketball.
Wecker posted career bests of 242 pounds in the hang clean, 180 pounds in the bench press and 423 pounds in the safe squat to go along with a 27-inch vertical jump.
The Male Olympic Sports Lifter of the Year was baseball player Steve Murphy, a junior from
“Steve is an extremely coachable athlete who leads his team in attitude and work ethic,” said Chris Anderson, the Wildcats’ strength coach for baseball.
Murphy’s numbers in the weight room included a 667-pound safe squat, a 300-pound high pull and a 260-pound bench press.
Cole also noted that Darren Sproles, the Wildcats all-time leading rusher, and Wecker were named National Strength and Conditioning Association All-Americans for 2005.
