MANHATTAN, Kan. The Sunflower State Showdown will be televised outside the state of Kansas for the first time in seven years on Saturday, Oct. 8, when Kansas State and Kansas do battle for the 103rd time in their historic rivalry.
Fox Sports Net and the Big 12 Conference announced Monday that the network has selected to telecast the game live in the Big 12 region beginning at 11 a.m.
The game will be the Wildcats’ third television appearance of the season. K-State’s Big 12 opener at Oklahoma will be telecast nationally on Fox Sports Net this Saturday at 6 p.m., while the Cats’ victory at Marshall on Sept. 10 aired nationally on ESPN2.
Fox Sports Net’s Oct. 8 telecast of the Kansas State vs. Kansas game marks the first time since the network aired the 1998 Sunflower Showdown that the rivalry will be televised on a non-pay-per-view basis. The 2001 game was cablecast across the state via pay-per-view.
The Kansas game will be Kansas State's 31st appearance on Fox Sports Net since the formation of the Big 12 in 1996 and the second this year. K-State made four appearances on FSN during the 2004 season, including home games vs. Fresno State, Texas Tech and Iowa State and a road contest at Missouri.
Other television selections for Oct. 8 include a national broadcast of the Texas vs. Oklahoma game on ABC at 12 p.m. (CT), a national telecast of the Texas Tech at Nebraska game at 3 p.m. (CT) on TBS and a national broadcast of the Texas A&M at Colorado game on Fox Sports Net at 6 p.m. (CT).
