K-State Winning Streak Snapped by Buffs
Jan 28, 2006 | Men's Basketball

BOULDER, Colo. - Lance Harris finally got back on track and Cartier Martin had another big game, but Kansas State struggled to find its offense in the closing minutes as Colorado held on to defeat the Wildcats 79-75 Saturday night at the Coors Events Center.
Harris sizzled all night long and finished with 23 points on 10-for-12 shooting for his best outing since pouring in 26 against Longwood back in December.
Meanwhile, Martin once again brought his 'A' game and pumped in a game-high 24 points to lead Kansas State (12-5, 3-3 Big 12), which had its three-game winning streak stopped.
The duo also combined to connect on 8-of-11 from beyond the arc as the Wildcats hit a season-high nine 3-pointers.
Richard Roby scored 18 points and Chris Copeland added 17 to pace Colorado (15-3, 5-2 Big 12) as the Buffaloes moved within a game of the Big 12 lead following Texas' loss at Oklahoma.
Dramane Diarra, who scored seven points, hit an outside jumper to make it 67-66 Colorado with just over four minutes to play. But the Wildcats would manage just two points over the next three minutes as the Buffaloes got two free throws from Copeland and three straight lay-ups to push the lead to 75-68 with 2:02 on the clock.
A lay-up by Harris and a 3-pointer by Martin kept the Wildcats in the fight as CU missed four straight free throws in the final 33 seconds.
Another lay-in by Harris with 12 seconds to play got Kansas State within 78-75, but Roby hit 1-of-2 from the stripe a few seconds later to put the game out of reach.
Kansas State returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 1, when the Wildcats travel to Waco, Texas, for a 7 p.m. tip at Baylor. There is no television for the game. However, it will be broadcast live on radio over the K-State Sports Network.
