Lehning Sets Assists Record in Win

The Wildcats (3-0) sputtered early in the game falling behind the Roadrunners (1-3), but with help from Lehning and sharp shooting from Kari Kincaid they pulled ahead and never looked back.
Lehning posted 13 assists to bring her career total to 602 as she scored 12 points and narrowly missed a triple-double with eight rebounds, four of which came in the closing minutes. Her 13 assists was a career-high and tied a school record for a game.
Kincaid led all the Wildcats with 17 points after shooting 5-of-8 from three-point range. Forward Marlies Gipson put 16 points on the scoreboard for the Wildcats, and Jalana Childs posted 13 to have four players score in double digits in the win.
UTSA was led by Monica Gibbs with 19 points but her effort was not enough as K-State scored 16 points off turnovers and dominated inside with 42 points in the paint. The Wildcats led by 14 points at halftime and opened the lead in the second half shooting 51.5 percent after the break. The Roadrunners shot 35 percent for the game while the Wildcats shot 33-of-67 for 49.3 percent. K-State dominated the glass as well pulling down 44 rebounds compared to UTSA’s 31. The Wildcats had 19 offensive boards leading to 19 second chance points.
