Wildcats Fall to Jayhawks

LAWRENCE, Kan. - The No. 6 Kansas Jayhawks opened the game with a 7-0 run to immediately grasp the momentum against the Kansas State Wildcats. K-State could never recover from the initial spurt and fell to in-state rival Kansas 90-66 on the 150th birthday of the state of Kansas.

K-State struggled to find its stroke for much of the night shooting 33.8 percent from the field, including a season-low 19.4 percent in the opening half. The Jayhawks, on the other hand, shot 61.8, a K-State opponent-high this season, on the night en route to the victory.

Jacob Pullen led the Wildcats in scoring putting 21 points on the board on his way to becoming the second leading scorer in K-State history. He moved ahead of Askia Jones and Rolando Blackman and now trails only Mike Evans on the list. Pullen now has 1,850 points and trails Evans by 265 points.

The Wildcats did not have an answer inside as the Jayhawks scored 48 points in the paint in the win. A total of five Jayhawks posted double digits in scoring including Markieff Morris with 20 points and nine rebounds.

The Wildcats will be in action again on Wednesday when they play host to Nebraska at 7 p.m. in Bramlage Coliseum. This will be the last time Nebraska travels to Manhattan as a conference opponent of the Wildcats as the Cornhuskers are moving to the Big Ten Conference next season.
