Shockers Surge Past Wildcats

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Poor shooting and early foul trouble plagued Kansas State Wednesday night in Bramlage Coliseum, as the Wildcats dropped their second straight game, 69-46, to Wichita State. The loss for K-State ended a 14-game home win streak in the month of November and was just the second loss in nine games at home for the Wildcats.
K-State (2-2) was led by freshman Leticia Romero with 10 points and six assists. This was Romero's third game in double figures this season.
WSU (2-2) jumped out to an early 10-0 lead and never looked back. K-State was unable to match the Shockers, as the Wildcats shot a subpar 7-of-27 (.259) from the field in the opening half, while the Shockers went 14-of-30 (.467). The home team went into the break trailing 37-19.
The second half saw the Wildcats shoot much better from the field, but the Shockers shot just as well. Wichita State's lead was never in trouble and was extended to as much as 27 at one point. The Shockers had four players finish in double figures, led by Michelle Price, who chipped in 25 points and eight rebounds.
K-State got some help off the bench from Bri Craig and Chantay Caron, who added eight and six points, respectively.
The Wildcats will have a week to regroup as the team prepares for the Junkanoo Jam in Freeport, Bahamas. K-State opens the tournament with a matchup against SMU on Nov. 28. The Wildcats return to the friendly confines of Bramlage Coliseum on Dec. 7, as K-State hosts Grambling State at 2 p.m.
