K-State Drops Top-10 Match-up at TCU

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Quarterback Trevone Boykin accounted for four touchdowns to help sixth-ranked TCU to a 41-20 win over No. 7 Kansas State on Saturday night before a crowd of 48,012 at Amon G. Carter Stadium.

The Wildcats (7-2, 5-1 Big 12) saw their five-game winning streak end with the loss, while the Horned Frogs (8-1, 5-1 Big 12) put themselves in the driver's seat in the Big 12 title race with the victory. It was also TCU's first win against K-State since joining the Big 12 in 2012 and the first in the series since 1986.

The setback overshadowed a record-setting night for senior wide receiver Tyler Lockett, who became the school's all-time leading receiver, surpassing his father, Kevin, with his 11-catch, 196-yard performance. Lockett now has 3,073 yards receiving in his career, which breaks the school record of 3,032 yards held by the elder Lockett from 1993-96. In addition, his 196 yards receiving ranks as the seventh-most in a game in school history and his third highest career total, while his 11 receptions tied for the 11th-most by a Wildcat receiver. It was also his 13th career 100-yard receiving game.

For TCU, Boykin was equally lethal on the ground as through the air, accounting for 342 total yards and four total touchdowns on the night. He rushed for 123 yards on 17 carries with three scores, while he completed 23-of-34 passes for 219 yards and a touchdown. Running back Aaron Green gave the Horned Frogs two 100-yard rushers, as he posted 171 yards rushing on just 18 carries with a touchdown. Green and Boykin combined to average 8.4 yards per rush.

Overall, TCU out-gained K-State, 553-410, including 334 on the ground. The 41 points were the most allowed this season and the most since also surrendering 41 to Oklahoma in 2013.

The Wildcats were led by another tenacious effort from senior quarterback Jake Waters, who passed for 291 yards on 20-of-37 attempts with two touchdowns. He has now thrown for at least 200 yards in each of the last 10 games, which is the longest by a Bill Snyder-coached quarterback and the longest streak since Josh Freeman had a 12-game streak split between the 2007 and 2008 seasons. He also continued to ascend up the record book, moving into sixth place in career completions (325) and touchdown passes (31) and into eighth place in career passing yards (4,638).

In addition to Lockett's record-breaking evening, wide out Curry Sexton also enjoyed a solid night with four receptions for 114 yards and a touchdown. He teamed with Lockett for the 12th double 100-yard receiving game in school history, including the second this season, while their 310 combined yards are the second-most by a Wildcat receiving tandem since Brandon Banks and Ernie Pierce had 321 against Oklahoma in 2008.

Defensively, K-State was again paced by senior linebacker Jonathan Truman, who had a game-high 12 tackles. It marked his seventh career double-digit tackle performance, including his fourth this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED | First Half
• After three straight punts to start the game, TCU opened the scoring with a 2-yard touchdown run by Boykin that capped a 6-play, 65-yard drive with a 6:06 left in the first quarter. The score was set up by a pair of pass plays by Boykin, including a 20-yard reception by Josh Doctson on third-and-8 from the TCU 37 and a 34-yard catch by David Porter to the K-State 2.

• The Frogs quickly made it 14-0 after forcing another Wildcat punt, as Boykin guided a 7-play, 58-yard drive that concluded with a 10-yard touchdown reception by Porter with 1:11 left in the opening quarter.

• K-State offense finally got on track just before the end of the first quarter, as Waters hooked up with Lockett for a 70-yard touchdown catch with just 42 second remaining to cap a 3-play, 70-yard drive.

• The teams traded punts until place-kicker Jaden Oberkrom gave TCU a 17-7 lead with 50 seconds before halftime to finish a 10-play drive. It was a key stop for the Wildcat defense, as the Frogs methodically drove 38 yards to the K-State 9 after taking over just inside the 50 yard line.

HOW IT HAPPENED | Second Half
• TCU quickly extended the lead to 24-7 start the second half, as Boykin capped a 5-play, 60-yard drive with a 19-yard touchdown run with 13:36 left in the third quarter. The drive was jump-started by a 40-yard kickoff return by Listenbee to open the half.

• K-State stayed within striking distance at 24-14, as Waters hit Sexton for a 15-yard touchdown strike to finish off an 8-play, 67-yard drive with 9:30 remaining in the third quarter. The drive was highlighted by a 21-yard reception by Lockett on second-and-12 from the K-State 31 and a 9-yard run by Demarcus Robinson.

• TCU again answered with a quick score, as Green had a 65-yard scoring run on just the drive's third play for a 31-14 lead with 8:39 in the third quarter.

• Oberkrom converted on his second field goal of the game – a 26-yard attempt – to give the Horned Frogs a 34-14 advantage just 10 seconds into the fourth quarter. The field goal finished off a 9-play, 66-yard drive, which included a 34-yard rush by Green.

• The teams traded possessions until TCU pushed the lead to 41-14 on another Boykin touchdown run with 8:39 left in the game, this time a 23-yarder to cap a 9-play, 72-yard drive.

• The Wildcats finished off the scoring with 1:36 remaining as back-up quarterback Joe Hubener scored on a 6-yard run. The play was set up by a 74-yard pass play from Hubener to Sexton. The extra-point was blocked to conclude the scoring at 41-20.

• K-State will take a week off before returning to the field on Thursday, Nov. 20 at West Virginia (6-4, 4-3 Big 12). The game will kick off at 6 p.m. CT at Milan Puskar Stadium and will be broadcast nationally on FOX Sports 1.
