Klosterboer Named MPL Player of the Year

MANHATTAN, Kan. – After hitting a team-best .444 and being selected as a league all-star, K-State baseball’s Ethan Klosterboer was named the Mid-Plains League (MPL) Player of the Year, the league announced.
A rising sophomore for the Wildcats, Klosterboer paced the Junction City Brigade as one of the top hitters across the league, going 32-for-72 with two doubles and a triple over 27 games. The infielder also demonstrated tremendous plate discipline, drawing 25 walks – compared to 10 strikeouts – to help him post a .600 OBP. When he was on base, he managed to swipe double-digit bases, going 13-for-14 in stolen base attempts.
Klosterboer, along with fellow K-State teammates Sam Chadick and Josh Rolette, helped the Brigade capture the number two seed in the MPL playoffs following a 22-14 record in the regular season. Junction City, the defending MPL champions, will play a best-of-three semifinal series from July 23-25 while the Cowdin Cup Final is set for Monday, July 26.
Klosterboer played in 22 games as a true freshman for the Wildcats, hitting .158 (3-for-19) in a mostly late-game replacement role. The Atascocita High School (TX) product, who made two starts among his 22 contests, drove in three runs and recorded a .333 OBP over 24 plate appearances.
K-State will report for official fall practices in September following its 2015 campaign in which it reached its eighth Big 12 Championship over the last nine seasons.
