Wildcats Downed by (3/4) Lady Bears in League Opener

WACO, Texas – Kansas State opened its Big 12 schedule on Thursday night at (3/4) Baylor, and the Lady Bears continued their home court winning streak with a 87-57 win.
Kansas State (10-3, 0-1 Big 12) was led by senior guard Kindred Wesemann with 16 points. With the scoring performance, Wesemann became the 40th member of K-State's career 1,000-point club.
Joining Wesemann in double figures was senior center Breanna Lewis with 14 points and seven rebounds, while junior guard Karyla Middlebrook added 13 points of her own.
Baylor (12-1, 1-0 Big 12) featured four players in double figures paced by sophomore center Kalani Brown with 22 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks.
The Wildcats ended the night shooting 29.8 percent (17-of-57 from the floor, while the Lady Bears recorded a 49.3 percent (36-of-73) effort which was bolstered by a 64-20 advantage in points in the paint. K-State was 18-of-24 from the free throw line, while Baylor was 13-of-18. The Lady Bears doubled up the Wildcats on the glass, 56-28.
K-State secured a 14-12 lead over the Lady Bears with 4:20 to play in the quarter. The Wildcats used a 10-5 lead to jump in front, as Wesemann scored eight of the 10 points during the rally. Baylor held K-State without a field goal in the final 4:20 of the quarter and went on a 13-2 run to hold a 25-16 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Wildcats cut into the Lady Bears' lead with a 6-2 run to begin the second quarter to pull within five, 27-22, with 7:49 remaining in the half. Baylor ended the half with 17-6 run to hold a 44-28 lead at the half.
With 14 seconds remaining in the second quarter, Wesemann converted a contested layup in the lane to become the 40th member of K-State's career 1,000-point club. Wesemann joins teammate Lewis in the 1,000-point club.
Baylor outscored K-State, 24-10, in the third quarter to increase its lead to 68-38 at the end of the third. The Lady Bears used a 13-0 run midway through the stanza to pull in front of the Wildcats.
