
K-State Advances Past Delaware State at NCEAs

WACO, Texas- The No. 8 K-State equestrian team advanced out of the first round of the NCEA National Championship, defeating Delaware State, 10-6, at the Extraco Events Center.
Noteworthy
• Kansas State is now 5-10 on
the season.
• The Wildcats secured the victory in
both disciplines against the Hornets winning in Hunt Seat and
Western, 5-3.
• The leadership of the Wildcats' upperclassmen
was evident on Thursday as eight of the 10 points came from the
experienced group today.
• The Wildcats are now 2-0 against the Hornets
this season.
• Last season, K-State defeated SMU in a 10-5
decision in the first round of the National Championship.
Reining
• The Wildcats tied in the opening
discipline, Reining, with DSU, 2-2.
• Senior Danielle Kemper
won a point in the discipline as she defeated DSU’s
Alexis Gratkowski, 137-130.5.
• Fellow classmate Nicholle Hatton
fed off of Kemper’s point as she grasped her own point by
a 141-138 decision against Cheyenne Adams advancing her overall
record to 9-4-2.
Equitation on the Flat
• K-State battled out the discipline with
a 3-1 victory.
• Junior Rory Reichelt started the
second half of the discipline off strong with a carded score of
139 to edge past Delaware State's Hayley Anderson, 139-138.
• Junior Gretchen Koenen then secured
the point against DSU’s Vanessa Rabito by a score
of 139-129 and is now 16-13 as a Wildcat, and 8-6 this
season.
• Junior Christina Martinelli tallied
her 13th win of the season with a conquest over Caroline Schock,
156-127.
Horsemanship
• The Wildcats notched the victory in
Horsemanship in a 3-1 decision.
• Sophomore Paige Kemper carded a score of
146.5 to defeat the Hornets' Brooke Moore, 146.5-144.5.
• Danielle Kemper followed her
sister’s lead as she rode past DSU’s, Emily Fick,
148-138.5, and is now 14-12-1 this season.
• Junior Alyssa Lombardi picked up
her fifth season triumph gaining a point for the Wildcats in the
discipline against DSU’s Alexis Gratkowski, 135-131.
Equitation over Fences
• Going into the last event of the
day, K-State tied a tough DSU team, 2-2.
• Martinelli laid claim to a win, as
she rode past DSU’s Caroline Schock in a 142-137 for
another victory.
• Sophomore Halle Kutsche kept her
winning streak in tact as she defeated Rachel Dantley, 153-148, in
the final ride of competition.

quarterfinal matchup with No. 1 Auburn of the 2016 NCEA
Championships. The Wildcats and Lady Tigers met earlier this
