K-State Returns to Iowa City for the Hawkeye Invitational
Apr 14, 2017 | Men's Golf
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State men’s golf team is set to return to the links Saturday and Sunday, playing in the Hawkeye Invitational at the par-72, 7,200-yard Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, Iowa.
Kansas State will open play with a 9:30 a.m., shotgun start on Saturday to the first two rounds. The third and final round will tee off at 9 a.m., on Sunday.
“We are looking forward to competing this weekend in Iowa. Finkbine is a great golf course that is always in tremendous shape,” said head coach Grant Robbins, whose Wildcats finished in fifth at the Hawkeye Invitational a year ago. “The greens are usually firm and fast, so we have to do a good job with being precise with our approach and be below the hole as much as possible.”
K-State’s scoring lineup will consist of sophomores Jeremy Gandon and Roland Massimino, senior Matt Green, and freshmen Ben Fernandez and Levi Valadez. Senior Jack Rickabaugh will compete as an individual.
In last year’s event, Gandon tied for 21st at 2-over par 218, while Green and Rickabaugh tied for 34th with a 6-over par 222 score.
In addition to tournament host Iowa, Kansas State will face off against Arkansas State, Denver, DePaul, Iowa State, Kansas, Marquette, Minnesota, Nebraska, South Dakota State, Texas Tech, Utah and UMKC.
Live scoring can be found at www.golfstat.com while updates from Iowa City will be posted at www.kstatesports.com following each day.
