
Scudder, Brennan Pick Up Big 12 Weekly Honors

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Following a 4-1 week and a series victory over No. 21 West Virginia, Kansas State senior first baseman Jake Scudder and freshman outfielder Will Brennan were named Big 12 Player and Newcomer of the Week, respectively, the conference office announced Monday.
The duo led K-State in hitting during a week that included a doubleheader sweep of New Mexico, leaders of the Mountain West Conference, on Tuesday prior to taking two-of-three games from West Virginia over the weekend. The conference series win was K-State’s first of the season and the first series loss for the 21st-ranked Mountaineers.
Brennan and Scudder each posted a pair of multi-hit and multi-RBI efforts and recorded at least one hit in all five games during the week. The honor is Brennan’s second this season while Scudder collects his first-career weekly award.
Scudder belted two homers during the week to up his Big 12-leading total to 11, a career high and most by a Wildcat hitter since 2010 (Carter Jurica, 13). The Rock Island, Illinois, native drove in a conference-best nine runs, including a four-RBI and three-RBI game. The senior went 5-for-8 (.625) with runners in scoring position as he hit .381 and slugged .714 during the week.
Brennan posted a team-best .412 average (7-for-17) and .565 on-base percentage. The Stilwell, Kansas, product drove in five run – four with two outs – and scored seven times from the leadoff spot. Brennan also drew six walks while only striking out once as he continues to be the toughest player in the Big 12 to strike out, averaging 17.3 at-bats per strikeout. The freshman outfielder ranks second in the league with his .364 average and .466 on-base percentage.
The Wildcats receive two award winners in the same week from the conference office for the first time since May 18, 2015, when Tyler Wolfe (Newcomer) and Nate Griep (Pitcher) were named. It is the seventh time in program history K-State earned multiple honorees for the weekly award.
K-State (21-19) will face Arkansas in the National College Hall of Fame Classic at Kauffman Stadium, home of the Kansas City Royals, on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m., and will be broadcast nationally on Cox Sports Television and Cox Channel Kansas.
