Six Wildcats Named to Academic All-Big 12 Teams

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Six Kansas State baseball student-athletes, four first-team selections and two second-team honorees, were named to the 2017 Academic All-Big 12 teams, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Seniors Jordan Floyd (social sciences), Colton Kalmus (entrepreneurship) and Jake Wodtke (life sciences-pre-pharmacy) were named to the first team and joined by sophomore Mitch Zubradt (financial economics). All four are named to the first team for the first time in their respective careers. Kalmus and Wodtke were each placed on the second team a year ago. This marks Wodtke’s third-career academic all-conference honor.
Second-team selections include senior Josh Ethier (communication studies) and sophomore Brogan Heinen (human resource management). Both are named Academic All-Big 12 for the first time.
This marks the sixth straight year at least six Wildcats earned Academic All-Big 12 awards.
A total of 89 student-athletes were named to this year’s Academic All-Big 12 teams, including 52 first-team members and 30 second-team selections.
The first team consisted of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team held a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
