May 31, 2017 | Volleyball
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Brooke Smith, a transfer from Nebraska, has been added to the Kansas State volleyball roster as an incoming junior, head coach Suzie Fritz announced today.
Smith, a 5-foot-11 defensive specialist and setter, comes to K-State after two years at Nebraska. In her time with the Cornhuskers, she appeared in 30 sets over the course of 18 matches and two starts. Primarily a serving specialist, Smith tallied nine aces in her limited action for the Huskers.
Originally recruited out of Azle High School in Weatherford, Texas, as a setter, Smith was a four-time MVP of her varsity squad, as well as being named district server of the year three times in addition to her three first-team all-district selections.
During her 2015 freshman campaign in Lincoln, Smith played in 13 matches, appearing in 22 sets, with one start and six aces for a Husker team that claimed the national title.
As a sophomore in 2016, she played in eight sets over five matches, recording three aces on a team that reached the Final Four.
Smith will join a Wildcat roster that retains 10 letterwinners from a team that earned its fifth trip to the NCAA Tournament in the last six years. K-State came off their 12th 20-win season under Fritz, who enters her 17th season as head coach.
