SENIORS IN 2017-18
Kyle Barfield, El Dorado Broncos (Jayhawk League)
Barfield is coming off back-to-back multi-hit games, including going 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in his last game on Sunday. On July 12, he hit his second home run of the season that helped extend his hitting streak to nine games. He has eight hits in his last six games (8-for-24), raising his season average to .284. Twice this season he has caught 11 fly balls in a games, a team record for putouts and now owns the team’s single-season mark at over 100 putouts in the outfield. The Broncos have won their last five and seven of the last eight overall and are 20-19 on the season.
Jake Biller, Superior Rough Riders (Rocky Mountain Collegiate Baseball League)
Biller has helped the Rough Riders to 9-14-1 record in the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Baseball League to begin the season (no stats available).
Hanz Harker, Springfield Sliders (Prospect League)
Harker has hit safely in five of his last six games, including a 3-for-4 effort with a home run and three runs scored in a 6-4 win vs. Quincy on Saturda7. Over his last six games, Harker is hitting .475 (9-for-19) with a home run, three RBI and five runs scored. Harker has a slash line of .266/.364/.455 in 38 games this season. He is third on the team in RBI (28) and leads the team in triples (4), as the Springfield (Illinois) Sliders are 21-21 in the Prospect League.
Trent McMaster, Superior Rough Riders (Rocky Mountain Collegiate Baseball League)
McMaster has helped the Rough Riders to 9-14-1 record in the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Baseball League to begin the season (no stats available).
JUNIORS IN 2017-18
Matt Nerz, Syracuse Salt Cats (New York Collegiate Baseball League)
Nerz recorded a hit in both games of a doubleheader against Sherrill on July 11, adding a walk and run scored. In 33 games (25 starts) with the Salt Cats, Nerz is hitting .260 (25-for-96) with three doubles, a triple, home run and five RBI. He has registered five multi-hit games, including back-to-back two-hit games on June 22-23. Syracuse is 19-19 in the New York Collegiate Baseball League.
SOPHOMORES IN 2017-18
Will Brennan, Anchorage Glacier Pilots (Alaska League)
Brennan has reached base safely in his last 15 games and has recorded a hit in his last five games, with two multi-hit games in that span. On July 11, he went 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored. Brennan boasts a slash line of .360/.423/.350 and 10 runs batted in and eight stolen bases. Saturday, he made his fourth appearance on the mound, striking out all three batters he faced. On the hill, he has a 1-1 record with six strikeouts, no walks and a 3.85 ERA (4.2 IP, 2 ER). Anchorage is 17-20 in the Alaska League.
Tyler Eckberg, Superior Rough Riders (Rocky Mountain Collegiate Baseball League)
Eckberg has helped the Rough Riders to 9-14-1 record in the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Baseball League to begin the season (no stats available).
Connor Rule, Jamestown Jammers (Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League)
Rule went 1-for-4 with a pair of walks against Geneva last Tuesday. He has a slash line of .239/.358/.313 with three doubles and 14 runs batted in in 19 games for Jamestown. The Jammers lead the West Division of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League with a 27-11 record.
Cameron Thompson, Anchorage Glacier Pilots (Alaska League)
Thompson is riding a five-game hitting streak, going 7-for-17 (.412) with three runs and three RBI in that stretch. He also made his third pitching appearance last week, throwing a scoreless inning of relief Saturday. In 31 games for the Glacier Pilots, Thompson is hitting .232 (22-for-95) with 11 RBI and 15 runs scored. On the mound, he logged 5 2/3 innings in three appearances without allowing a run and striking out four, as Anchorage is 17-20 in the Alaska League.
PRO CATS
Carlos Torres, Milwaukee Brewers
Torres continues to be one of the Brewers’ most-used relievers this season, tied for the team lead with 45 appearances. He has two scoreless outings since the All-Star Break against Philadelphia, allowing one hit in 2 2/3 innings with a strikeout. Torres has surrendered just one hit and one walk in his last three games overall and owns a 4-4 record with one save. In 48 innings pitched this season, he has allowed 22 earned runs for a 4.13 ERA with 38 strikeouts to 18 walks. The Brewers are currently in first place in the NL Central.
Evan Marshall, Seattle Mariners
Marshall was claimed off waivers by the Seattle Mariners early in the 2017 season and has appeared in six games for the Mariners, totaling 7 2/3 innings with four strikeouts and allowing eight earned runs. He is currently on the 60-day disabled list after suffering a hamstring injury on May 5 against the Texas Rangers and is expected to be out until after the All-Star break.
Nick Martini, Memphis Redbirds (Triple-A, St. Louis Cardinals)
Martini hit a walk-off home run Saturday for Memphis, going 2-for-3 in a 2-1 victory over Round Rock. He now has five home runs on the season and has a slash line of .313/.403/.472 since being moved up to Triple-A on May 5. In 58 games with the Redbirds, Martini has 32 runs driven in, 13 doubles and 39 runs scored. The Redbirds’ 61-33 record is the best in the Pacific Coast League.
Kyle Hunter, Arkansas Travelers (Double-A, Seattle Mariners)
Hunter has split time this season between Triple-A Tacoma and Double-A Arkansas. He made one appearances last week for Arkansas, throwing an inning and a third while allowing four earned runs on seven hits. He has now pitched in 14 games (one start) for the Travelers and has allowed 14 earned runs in 24 innings (5.25 ERA) with 19 punchouts and seven walks allowed. In seven appearances (two starts) for Tacoma earlier this season, he went 3-0 with a 2.84 ERA in 19 innings pitched with 13 strikeouts and four walks
Wade Hinkle, Erie SeaWolves (Double-A, Detroit Tigers)
Hinkle was promoted from Class-A Lakeland to Double-A Erie on June 29 and hit his first home run for the SeaWolves on Thursday against Akron. Hinkle has two hits and three runs batted in in his last two games and is hitting .143 in eight games with Erie. In 68 games with Lakeland, he hit .241 with an OBP of .372 and three home runs and led the Flying Tigers with 14 doubles and was second with 28 runs batted in.
Nate Griep, Carolina Mudcats (Class A Advanced, Milwaukee Brewers)
Griep posted two scoreless outings last week in non-save situations for Carolina, totaling 1 1/3 innings without yielding a hit. This season, Griep leads the Carolina League with his 17 saves (19 opportunities) and owns an ERA of 1.72 (6 ER, 31.1 IP). Opponents are hitting just .181 against him while he has 30 strikeouts to 17 walks and a 3-0 record (29 appearances).
Lucas Benenati, Dayton Dragons (Class A, Cincinnati Reds)
Benenati had two scoreless outings last week - a scoreless inning of relief Friday at Clinton and 2/3 of an inning at Kane County Monday – allowing just one hit and no walks over the 1 2/3 innings. In 16 appearances this season with Dayton, he has 22 strikeouts and five walks in 22 2/3 innings and a 7.54 ERA.
Tyler Wolfe, Quad Cities River Bandits (Class A, Houston Astros)
Wolfe has reached base safely in his last 11 games with Quad Cities, including going 1-for-2 with an RBI, two walks and a run scored Thursday at South Bend. Wolfe began the season with Double-A Corpus Christi, where he had a homer, two RBI and two runs scored in 10 games before being assigned to Class A Quad Cities on June 16. In 16 games for the River Bandits, Wolfe is 8-for-51 (.143) with four RBI, two doubles and has 11 walks for a .317 on-base percentage.
Levi MaVorhis, State College Spikes (Class A Short Season, St. Louis Cardinals)
In his one outing last week, MaVorhis tossed three innings of scoreless relief against Brooklyn, allowing just two hits and no walks with a strikeout in a 12-1 victory. MaVorhis has not allowed an earned run in his last three outings, with three strikeouts and no walks in that span. He is 0-0 in five games (two starts) with an ERA of 3.29 (5 ER, 13.2 IP) and nine strikeouts.
Jake Scudder, Auburn Doubledays (Class A Short Season, Washington Nationals)
Scudder made his professional debut on June 28 for Class A Auburn, and has reached base safely in his last 10 games. Last Tuesday, he went 2-for-5 with three RBI as part of a string of three straight games with two hits. In 13 games, he has a slash line of .294/.357/.353 with eight RBI and three doubles. Scudder, K-State’s two-time home run and RBI leader, was taken by the Nationals in the 16th round (493rd overall) of the 2017 MLB Draft.
Parker Rigler, Great Falls Voyagers (Rookie, Chicago White Sox)
Rigler made his first career professional start on Sunday against Grand Junction, going four innings and allowing one earned run on three hits with three strikeouts. Despite being sixth on the team in innings pitched, Rigler leads the Voyagers with 26 strikeouts in 16 innings (seven appearances) in his first season of professional baseball. He was the second Wildcat pitcher taken in the 2017 MLB Draft, picked by the Chicago White Sox in the 31st round (927th overall).
Jordan Floyd, Burlington Royals (Rookie, Kansas City Royals)
Floyd made two appearances for Burlington last week, allowing an earned run on two hits over two innings. Monday, Floyd threw a scoreless inning of relief against Pulaski. After making his professional debut the Arizona Royals on June 25, Floyd was assigned to Rookie Burlington. In four games for Burlington, Floyd has allowed 10 hits over 7 2/3 innings with two earned run and two strikeouts. Floyd collected a save in his professional debut with the Arizona Royals, going two innings while striking out five and allowing only one hit and one walk. Floyd was the first Wildcat taken in the 2017 MLB Draft after being selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 10th round (300th overall).
Josh Rolette, AZL Indians (Rookie, Cleveland Indians)
Rolette made his professional debut with the AZL Indians on July 9 against the AZL Diamondbacks, going 1-for-3. In three games, Rolette is 2-for-7 (.286) with a run scored. Rolette was taken by the Cleveland Indians in the 39th round of the 2017 MLB Draft.
