K-State Participates in Big 12 Media Day Wednesday
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas State head coach Bruce Weber and seniors Barry Brown, Jr., Kamau Stokes and Dean Wade participated in the Big 12 Conference Media Day on Wednesday at Sprint Center.
Weber and the players participated in several sessions during the annual event, including a Q&A with Christine Williamson of the Big 12 Digital staff, live radio interviews, one-on-ones with CBS Sports, ESPN and print and online media.
In addition to the usual media interactions by each of the 10 conference schools and their respective head coaches and top returning players, the Big 12 issued several announcements.
The Big 12 and the BIG EAST Conferences announced the creation of a non-conference scheduling series for four seasons, beginning in 2019-20 and continuing through 2022-23. Ten games between the two leagues will be played each season during the month of December. Each conference will have five home games. The two leagues will collaborate to determine the matchup each year with all 10 schools from each conference participating each year.
The Big 12 and BIG EAST are already engaged in home-and-home matchups for the upcoming season due to some pre-existing agreements, including a series between K-State and Marquette, which begins December 1 at the new Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee. The return game set for December 7, 2019 at Bramlage Coliseum between the Wildcats and Golden Eagles will be wrapped into the inaugural year of the series in 2019. Other matchups set include Kansas at Villanova, Oklahoma at Creighton and Texas at Providence. The other six games will be announced in Spring 2019.
The Big 12 also announced at extension of Kansas City and Sprint Center as the host site for the Phillips 66 Men's Championship through 2024 with the women's championship returning to the city beginning in 2021. Kansas City was the initial host of both championships in the first six years of the Conference from 1997 to 2002, and again, in 2005, 2008 and 2010-12. The men's championship has been in Kansas City since 2010.
K-State open its exhibition season on Friday, November 2 against Pittsburg State with tip set for 7 p.m., CT.
