
Record 11 Wildcats Named Academic All-Big 12 First Team

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State volleyball team earned a league-high 11 Academic All-Big 12 First Team selections, as the conference office announced its annual Academic All-Big 12 Teams Tuesday.
K-State's 11 first-team selections are most in program history and include perfect 4.0 GPAs from sophomore Brynn Carlson and senior Reilly Killeen. The total number of Wildcats honored equals the program's all-time record of 11 total selections set in 2016 (9 first team, 2 second team).
Joining Carlson and Killeen on the first team are redshirt junior Sarah Dixon, redshirt senior Devan Fairfield, senior Macy Flowers, senior Zsofia Gyimes, redshirt freshman Brooke Heyne, junior Elle Sandbothe, senior Alyssa Schultejans, redshirt freshman Jacque Smith and redshirt sophomore Peyton Williams.
Fairfield collected the fourth academic all-conference honor of her career and initial first-team selection while Flowers, Gyimes and Schultejans each earn their third selections.
Dixon, Sandbothe and Williams are named to the first team for the second straight year and Carlson, Heyne, Killeen and Smith each pick up the first honors of their respective careers.
First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second-team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. A total of 66 student-athletes were honored as Academic All-Big 12, with 59 first-team selections and seven members of the second team.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
K-State (13-11, 3-10 Big 12) continues its conference slate Wednesday at KU (15-8, 8-4 Big 12) at 6:30 p.m. The season's second Dillons Sunflower Showdown will air on ESPN+ and on the ESPN app. Fans can also listen to Rob Voelker call the action on News Radio KMAN (93.3 FM, 1350 AM) and streaming live on K-StateSports.com/watch.
