MANHATTAN, Kan.– The Kansas State women's golf team picked up a new golfer for the 2019-20 season, as head coach Kristi Knight announced that Lubbock, Texas, native Haley Vargas has signed her National Letter of Intent.
A product of Frenship High School, Vargas was the 2016 Lone Star Varsity Athlete of the Year in Girls Golf and has had a successful tenure on the junior circuit.
"We are super excited to be adding Haley Vargas to our program," Knight said. "She brings great character, good fundamentals, and she is always striving to be better. She is a true competitor and a great young lady."
Vargas was a qualifier for the 2017 USGA Junior Girls Championship, while she won the 2018 James A. Ragan Memorial event that was a part of the Texas Golf Association Legends Junior Tour. Vargas also won an American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) qualifier in 2017 at Buffalo Dunes GC in Garden City, Kansas.
"Overall, Haley brings a really solid game," Knight said. "She has played and competed a lot around the country and especially in Texas, which is deep in talent. Her biggest strength is length off the tee and solid fundamentals all around."
Kansas State continues its 2018-19 season when the Wildcats compete in The Dickson, February 25-26, in The Woodlands, Texas.
