Three Wildcats in Top 10 After Round One in Alabama
Feb 12, 2018 | Men's Golf
The K-State men's golf team got off to a quick start with three individuals sitting in the top 10 after the first round of the USA Individual Tournament at the Magnolia Grove Golf Course on Monday. The second round was suspended due to darkness.
"There were a lot of positives today," head coach Grant Robbins said. "Unfortunately, we were not able complete the second round, but we had a few guys under par in round two, which was good to see.
"We should have multiple guys in contention going into the final round, which will be great experience from them this early in the year."
Junior Jeremy Gandon posted the best score for the Wildcats in round one by recording an even-par 71 to tie for second place, just one stroke behind leader Peter Reddig of Florida State.
Matthieu Caron and Trent Evans joined Gandon in the top 10 as they were tied for sixth place after carding a 2-over par 73 in the first round. Evans was the only individual who fired an eagle in the first round on Monday.
Four Wildcats –Jacob Eklund, Ben Fernandez, Roland Massimino and Kyle Vance – finished the first round tied for 13th place at 3-over par 74.
Junior JC Campbell recorded four birdies but turned in a first-round score of 5-over par 76 to tie for 21st after round one.
The second round of the USA Individual Tournament will resume on Tuesday at 8 a.m., followed by the final round. Final results will be posted to www.golfstat.com, while a complete recap can be found at www.k-statesports.com following the conclusion of the tournament.
