MANHATTAN, Kan. – Middle blocker Kayley Hollywood has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) with Kansas State volleyball during the spring signing period, head coach Suzie Fritz announced Wednesday.
Hollywood, a 6-foot-5 middle blocker from Houston, Texas, comes to K-State as a three-year letterwinner at Fort Bend Austin High School. Accumulating 630 kills and 297 blocks in her career, she helped the Bulldogs reach the state championship tournament in three consecutive seasons, including a spot in the 6A state finals in her sophomore campaign.
"Kayley comes from a competitive club and high school situation in Houston," Fritz said of Hollywood. "We were very impressed with Kayley's potential after having opportunities to work with her in camp. She has natural blocking instincts and a strong presence at the net."
Hollywood capped her standout career with 161 kills, 76 blocks, 39 aces and a .350 hitting percentage in her senior season, earning a spot on the Texas Sports Writers Association 6A Second Team.
Named Player of the Year in her district in 2017, she was a three-time first-team all-district selection for head coach Jennifer Moote's squad at Fort Bend Austin.
Hollywood was named one of Prep Volleyball's Senior Aces as one of the top 250 recruits in the country and played her club volleyball for Houston Skyline Juniors under head coach Brenden Kowalski.
"Kayley is hungry to learn and be an impact player for us," added Fritz. "We have great depth at the middle position and are expecting Kayley to initially redshirt, learn from her peers and take advantage of the time to get stronger and develop."
Hollywood will join the Wildcat volleyball program in the summer, joining fellow 2018 signees Abigail Archibong (Shawnee, Kansas), Holly Bonde (Minooka, Illinois) and Gloria Mutiri (Sand Springs, Oklahoma). Archibong and Mutiri have been a part of spring workouts after enrolling at K-State in the spring semester.
"As a whole, this is a group of high-achieving young women that will fit in seamlessly with the outstanding women on our team," Fritz said of the recruiting class. "This group possesses not only a high level of athletic potential, but also an exciting combination of leadership, competitiveness and proven academic success and preparedness. These young women come from amazing and supportive families that are looking forward to becoming part of the K-State family."
K-State continues its spring competition schedule on Saturday as it co-hosts an event with UMKC at Swinney Recreation Center. The Cats will compete in shortened matches against Creighton, Missouri, Saint Louis and Wichita State beginning at 10 a.m.
