
No. 4 Texas Tech Powers Way to Series-Opening Win

Grant Little hit two of the Red Raiders' homers, including a fourth-inning grand slam, as he went 4-for-5 with nine runs batted in. Texas Tech (27-8, 6-4 Big 12) scored 20 of its 21 runs in the first five innings and starting pitcher Davis Martin held K-State (15-19, 2-8 Big 12) to two hits and no runs. The Wildcats' season-long losing streak is at seven games.
Hanz Harker and Kyle Barfield each recorded two hits to lead the Wildcats. Barfield entered the game as a defensive replacement and drove in a team-high two runs. Harker added an RBI single and John Sorensen drew a bases-loaded walk to round out the Cats' scoring.
All four of K-State's runs came in the seventh inning or later.
Drew Mount (triple) and Dylan Watts (double) accounted for both of K-State's extra-base hits in the game.
Texas Tech's offense got started early, as the first four hitters reached base off starter Justin Heskett. Back-to-back singles from Josh Jung and Little capped the scoring as Tech scored two on a pair of hits with two Wildcat errors in the frame.
Little delivered a three-run homer in the second as part of a four-run inning for the Red Raiders. Little had four RBI through the game's first two innings to hand TTU and Martin a 6-0 lead.
Martin earned his sixth win of the year with five innings of shutout ball. He allowed just two hits and struck out seven batters.
A five-run third, highlighted by a two-run homer from Cody Farhat, ended Heskett's day with 2 2/3 innings and a career-high 11 runs (seven earned) on 10 hits. The Red Raiders brought 10 to the plate in the third and recorded four hits to hand Heskett the loss.
All six of the Red Raiders' runs in the fourth inning off reliever Jared Marolf were unearned after a two-out error by Wildcats second baseman Brett Owen. Zach Rheams followed Little's grand slam with a solo home run, giving Tech a 17-0 lead after four innings.
Three more runs in the fifth, with Little's ninth RBI, pushed the lead to 20. Tech's 21 runs were the most in the history of the series and the third time its reached the 20-run mark this season.
K-State freshman Jaxon Passino broke TTU's scoring run, putting up a scoreless sixth inning. Passino finished with two innings of work and allowed one earned run on three hits.
Junior Brogan Heinen tossed a perfect eighth inning with a strikeout.
Three Red Raiders pitchers combined to strike out 15 hitters.
Texas Tech hit .545 (12-for-22) with runners in scoring position and had 13 two-out RBI.
