Thompson Named to Brooks Wallace Award Watch List

MANHTTAN, Kan. – K-State sophomore Cameron Thompson was selected to the 2018 Brooks Wallace Award Watch List as one of the nation's top shortstops, as announced by the College Baseball Foundation.
The award, sponsored by Mizuno, honors the nation's top shortstop and will be presented this summer by the College Baseball Foundation. It is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977-80. Wallace died of leukemia at the age of 27.
Thompson, a sophomore from Pasadena, Texas, leads the team in Big 12 play with his .333 average and 16 base hits, four extra-base hits and six stolen bases. He is also tied for the team lead in RBI in conference games.
On the season, Thompson has a slash line of .293/.385/.415 with seven doubles, four triples and a home run. His four triples are tied for the Big 12 lead while he ranks in the league's top 10 in stolen bases with 15.
In his freshman all-America season, Thompson started every game for the Wildcats with a team-best 70 base hits while posting a slash line of .318/.409/.418.
