Gandon Shoots 2-Over Par in First Round of NCAA Regional
May 14, 2018 | Men's Golf
STOCKTON, Calif. – Making his first-career NCAA postseason appearance, K-State men's golfer Jeremy Gandon concluded the first round of the NCAA Pacific Regional at 2-over par 74 on Monday and is tied for 44th place at the Reserve at Spanos Park.
Gandon enters Tuesday's second round in an eight-way tie for 44th, four strokes away from the top 20.
"Jeremy got off to a little bit of a slow start," said head coach Grant Robbins. "He gave away a couple of shots early with a bogey from 100 yards on No. 7 and a three-putt double bogey on No. 8. However, he did a great job of bouncing back and hit the ball extremely well the last 10 holes."
His front-nine performance featured a birdie on hole No. 6, but he made the turn at 3-over due to bogeys on Nos. 4 and 7 in addition to the double-bogey. Gandon played the back nine at 1-under par thanks to birdies on Nos. 11 and 16, while bogeying No. 13.
"If he can continue to hit the ball like he did on the back and make a few putts, he can go low the next couple of rounds," Robbins said.
Three competitors – Daniel Sutton (Kansas), Brandon Wu (Stanford) and Ryan Han (UC Davis) – carded the best round of the day at 5-under par 67. Iowa State leads on the team leaderboard with a 10-under par 278 in round one.
The NCAA Pacific Regional will resume on Tuesday as Gandon will tee off at 9:20 a.m. (PT). Live scoring can be followed at www.golfstat.com, with updates posted at www.k-statesports.com following each round.
