MANHATTAN, Kan. – Thanks in part to an outstanding finish to his regular season, Kansas State junior men's golfer Jeremy Gandon was one of 11 players in the league to earn All-Big 12 honors, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon.
Gandon is the fourth Wildcat to earn all-conference honors in school history, joining Richard Laing (1992 and 1993), Aaron Watkins (2003 and 2004) and Matt Van Cleave (2005).
A native of Charpy, France, Gandon earned the all-conference honor on the same day he was named the Big 12 Golfer of the Month for April, a month in which he collected three top-10 finishes with wins at the Hawkeye Invitational and Big 12 Championship. By tying for first at the Big 12 Championship, Gandon became the Wildcats' first individual conference champion since Graham Hunt won the Big Seven Championship in 1951.
Gandon led the Wildcats during the 2017-18 regular season with a 72.78 stroke average, a mark that ranks in the top-10 in school history. His play this season lowered his career stroke average to 73.01, also a K-State program best. He totaled 12 rounds of even or under par, including five of his last nine rounds, while he contributed 90-percent (27-of-30) rounds to the team's overall score.
In his victory at the Hawkeye Invitational, Gandon shot a 6-under par 66 to tie for the 15th-lowest 18-hole score in school history, while his score of 283 at the Big 12 Championship was the second-lowest 72-hole score in K-State history.
Gandon season could continue next week as the NCAA Men's Golf Selection Show will be televised Wednesday afternoon beginning at 4:30 p.m. (CT) on The Golf Channel.
