K-State’s Gandon Named Big 12 Golfer of the Month

MANHATTAN, Kan. – After claiming a pair of first-place finishes in the month of April – including the school's first individual conference championship since 1951 – Kansas State junior Jeremy Gandon was named the Big 12 Golfer of the Month, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Gandon, who turned in three top-10 finishes in three April events, is the first Wildcat to be named Big 12 Golfer of the Month since Mitchell Gregson (October) and Robert Streb (November) in 2008.
A native of Charpy, France, Gandon tallied a 70.22 stroke average over nine rounds in the month of April, which included three sub-70 rounds. He began the month at the Missouri Tiger Invitational by tying for ninth place at 3-under par 213, which featured a 4-under par 68 in the first round.
Three days later at the rain-shortened Hawkeye Invitational, Gandon won his second career tournament with a 36-hole score of 8-under par 136. He carded a 6-under par 66 in the first round and backed that with a 2-under par 70 in round two to win the event by four shots.
Perhaps Gandon's most impressive performance came in the 72-hole Big 12 Championship when he battled poor weather conditions to earn K-State's first individual conference title since Graham Hunt won the Big Seven Championship in 1951. The junior finished in a four-way tie for first place at 3-over par 283 on the par-70 Southern Hills, which has been the home to numerous major championships through the years.
Gandon season could continue next week as the NCAA Men's Golf Selection Show will be televised Wednesday afternoon beginning at 4:30 p.m. (CT) on The Golf Channel.
