TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Freshman Jaybe Shufelberger led Kansas State in the Women's White 6k race at the Under Armour Pre-Nationals Invitational on Saturday (October 19), taking home a top-50 performance in her first 6k meet at the Lavern Gibson Cross Country Course. Shufelberger would finish 36th in the meet at a pace of 22:04.7.

Heading into their first national meet of the 2019 season, the Wildcats finished 22nd overall as a team and had four runners place inside the top-100 for the race. Joining Shufelberger in the top 100 were freshman Hannah Stewart (81st, 22:53.4), senior Anna Keeley (95th, 23:06.7) and sophomore Cayli Hume (96th, 23:08.1).

On the men's side, the Wildcats finished outside the top-three in a meet for the first time in 2019, as the team placed 28th overall during the Men's Blue 8k race. Sophomore Cooper Schroeder placed 75th at the event with a time 24:37.8. Schroeder would end up being the lone Wildcat on the men's squad to place inside the top-100.

Rounding out the rest of the men's squad would be redshirt sophomore Jackson Schroeder (125th, 25:04.9), sophomore Ethan Powell (129th, 25:05.9), freshman Hadley Splechter (181st, 25:40.3), sophomore David Lutgen (183rd, 25:42.3), sophomore Kerby Depenbusch (187th, 25:44.3) and freshman Jack Thomas (25:57.1).

In regards to personal records, Shufelberger, Stewart and Kemp achieved personal bests in the 6k race while both the Schroeder siblings and Thomas marked new personal times in the 8k meet. Jackson Schroeder ran nearly 50 seconds better than his previous personal best of 25:50.6.

Competing in the Pre-Nationals Invitational for the first time since 2014, K-State went up against 11 top-30 programs in the men's race while the women's team faced off with 10 of the top-30 programs in the country. BYU, who entered the race No. 2 in the country, finished with the top-overall spot during the Men's 8k Blue race with 81 points. The Arizona women's squad would take home the top spot during the Women's White 6k race, recording 121 points.

"Both teams had great effort today", said Head Coach Ryun Godfrey. "I was very impressed with (Jackson) Schroeder in his first race in over a year. Also, we saw some nice improvements on the women's side. I know we still have more to give and I'm looking forward to the Big 12 Championships!"

The Wildcats will now enter postseason competition as the Big 12 Championship will begin on Saturday, November 2 in Waco, Texas. In last year's conference meet, K-State took home a spot at fifth place on the men's side while scoring 162 points while the women's team placed 10th overall with 240 points.
