
Holtorf Selected 2019 NFF National Scholar-Athlete

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State senior center Adam Holtorf picked up one of the most prestigious honors among FBS players on Wednesday as he was selected as a member of the 2019 National Football Foundation (NFF) National Scholar-Athlete Class and a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy.
Holtorf is one of just 12 players nationally – including seven from FBS schools and the lone Big 12 representative – that were named a finalist from a list of 185 semifinalists. Holtorf, a native of Seward, Nebraska, is the seventh Wildcat in school history to be named a finalist and the second in as many years following current Denver Bronco Dalton Risner.
By being named a finalist, Holtorf will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship and be honored at the 62nd NFF Annual Awards Dinner in New York City on December 10. One of the 12 finalists will be announced at the dinner as the 30th recipient of the William V. Campbell Trophy, which recognizes an individual as the absolute best student-athlete in the nation.
"We are extremely proud to announce the finalists for this year's Campbell Trophy," said NFF President & CEO Steve Hatchell. "These young men have an unrelenting commitment to excellence in all aspects of their lives, and they represent all that is right in college football. They serve as living examples that Football Matters, and we are excited to honor their hard work and accomplishments with postgraduate scholarships."
In its 61st year of existence, the William V. Campbell Trophy criteria states a player must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of playing eligibility, have a GPA of at least 3.2, have outstanding football ability and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship.
Holtorf earned a 3.916 GPA in as an undergraduate student as he graduated with a degree in Agribusiness and a minor in Leadership Studies in December 2018. Currently pursuing his MBA, Holtorf is a two-time Academic All-American, including the 2018 season when he picked up first-team accolades. He is also a two-time First Team Academic All-Big 12 recipient and was one of a league-record four players that were nominated with a 4.0 GPA last season.
Holtorf, who has started 32-consecutive games at center, has helped the 2019 Wildcats average 199.4 rushing yards per game to rank fifth in the Big 12, while K-State's current yards per carry average of 4.62 currently ranks 10th in school history.
In the community, Holtorf has volunteered his time for Cats in the Classroom, Senior Cats, Special Olympics, THRIVE! Flint Hills and at Seward High School youth football camps.
Kansas State travels to Lawrence this Saturday for the 117th edition of the Dillons Sunflower Showdown. The game, which kicks off at 2:30 p.m., will be shown on FS1.
